Just look at what happens in the US, for example. Polis or other public figures, incl ‘celebrities’, who’ve created some sort of teacup storm in the public and media's tortured minds, are beset almost beyond belief, mics shoved in their faces, barraged with inane questions, etc, etc. A frightening attitude in evidence, ie. The wider un-cropped version shows the male contingent also in full trot, all, I might add, wearing sensible running shoes. It appears only the ladies were caught flat footed that morning in heels, ignoring the first rule of journalism: be prepared!
The image itself conveys two lessons for the viewer. 1. The media has a preponderance to always hunt in a pack. That means they tell the same story. 2. Mr Luxon, on this occasion, either by accident or by design, signalled he had outsmarted the wolves forcing them to futilely chase. Jacinda, on the other hand, in her early days, tamed the pack by naming them and once she’d domesticated them as her pets, she had them eating out of her hand. Luxon, instead, has unapologetically arrived on his bible black Mercedes chariot, like a conquering Caesar, making the point he won’t be hiding his “success”. Without the back story of his mentor’s rags to riches statehouse tale, Luxon is selling the same aspirational message as John Key. However, that might be a harder sell without the common man narrative Key drew upon. Luxon might wind appearing like a corporate con man, instead.Quintessential New Zealandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14174649585822532890noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8442430064359197279.post-42298576036941519372021-12-09T06:33:46.061+13:002021-12-09T06:33:46.061+13:00"..we sometimes learn about new laws months a..."..we sometimes learn about new laws months after they have been passed, by which time they have taken effect and are starting to bite – often to the complete surprise of those affected by them."

I thought this was the reason we have Parliament TV - to watch it in progress.

Of course, we who do watch it get ridiculed for being boring. The coverage was all packaged to suggest Collins lost her temper, when in fact she simply pushed back against the clear bias that Stewart has exhibited for several years.
Richardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14974821210221902007noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8442430064359197279.post-60789399782381557452021-12-08T20:54:08.029+13:002021-12-08T20:54:08.029+13:00Someone has done a short video of this set to a pi...Someone has done a short video of this set to a pice of music made famous by Benny Hill. ...Karl,
You mention the skilled editing by Newshub.
The most cynical example was a TVNZ interview with the captain of the USS Truxton on her third visit to Wellington on 25th May, 1982. He was interviewed on the bridge and it was run that night on the 6pm News.
The captain sounded foolish and later complained that he had been set up. The then head of TVNZ News admitted that the tape of the interview had been deliberately spliced to create that effect. His attitude was so-what and he kept his job.

Bernard Moran, AucklandAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12704324974258641760noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8442430064359197279.post-61160115019450631412021-12-08T13:46:30.384+13:002021-12-08T13:46:30.384+13:00Yes, tabloid fluff everywhere and good point about...Yes, tabloid fluff everywhere and good point about the select committees.
