Sooner of later Rodney Hide will decide he has swallowed enough dead rats.

I have offfered him some encouragement on Peter Cresswell's political blog Not PC.Richard McGrathhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11485082980018421590noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8442430064359197279.post-23671309471930709832010-04-17T01:05:55.904+12:002010-04-17T01:05:55.904+12:00Well said, Karl. My thoughts exactly.
New Zealand...Well said, Karl. My thoughts exactly.

New Zealand is now being run for the benefit of a group of female urban liberal former Labour and Green voters who were persuaded to give Key their votes in 2008.

The views of his own supporters and ACT's don't matter, because Key knows they'll remain loyal to the coalition regardless.

If National were to haemorrhage support to ACT, again - so what?

The PM's commitment to catch Australia is totally fake, because his new lefty mates have no interest in economic goals.

(If they've heard of economics at all, they probably think it's something to do with the environment.)

His recent insistence that the Reserve Bank Governor was wrong to say we couldn't hope to catch Australia on present policy settings was also utterly fake.

Otherwise he'd hardly saddle us with an Emissions Trading Scheme that will drive up all prices, when that country he's supposed to be catching isn't having a bar of one any time soon.

(Oh, and neither are the countries who we were told would punish us for not having one. Even the EU's scheme only affects 4% of their economy, while ours affects 100%.)

The sad truth is, Key thinks he can fool most of the people most of the time, and most of the people are proving him right.

He's ambitious, but not for New Zealand.

If he was ambitious for New Zealand, he'd give New Zealand what it desperately needs: structural reform along the lines of Roger Douglas's 20 Point Plan.

Then he'd use his superb communication skills to sell it, and if still voted out could console himself that sensible reform is rarely undone (as we saw when Clark left the Douglas/Richardson reforms in place).

His sensible tinkerings here and there notwithstanding, unless he strikes oil in them thar parks, John Key is destined to go down in history as Helen Clark with a feminine side.

Oh, he'll shed crocodile tears when our productivity remains low, our OECD ranking continues to slide, and we fall further and further behind Australia, but continuing Clarxism is a price he's more than happy to pay for continuing popularity.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
