Saying sorry is all the thing. Just read news outlets online, hardly a day goes by without someone prominent (tho goodness knows how/why) apologising for upsetting the petals and snowflakes.

We live in an era of patronising tokenism, posturing and affectedness. Mass rallies in support of causes like BLM and Ihumatao draw more fringe and token … ‘we’re there to be seen’ types … than genuine participants. Taking the knee - mine hurt at the mere thought - by sports teams which include several different ethnic participants, and have done for decades, is ludicrous. Worse, it’s pointless, earning ridicule.

That, as we’re soon to find out, will be classified as hate speech if the blinkered Left have their way.hughvanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13655840089502084282noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8442430064359197279.post-60052865394675145722020-12-10T17:13:10.324+13:002020-12-10T17:13:10.324+13:00Dear Karl, even the champions of free speech have ...Dear Karl, even the champions of free speech have not escaped being tainted by the dumbing down of our education system which has been pursued relentlessly for many years by the ideologues of the Ministry of "Education", or should that be "Indoctrination"? Once you're a member of an organisation you're aligning yourself with whatever position it takes, and I haven't always agreed 100% with the coalition's statements. I do wish, however, that they would proof-read their media statements before sending them out. "Ceasing" for seizing and "per say" for per se? Their cynicism is matched only by the malevolence of the murderer who would no doubt find it impossible to suppress a smirk of satisfaction if free speech is suppressed. According to the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights free speech is an inalienable right as well as a universal one. It is an essential part of being human and no government can take it away from us. It is the cornerstone of democracy. There are already laws available to deal with people who incite violence or who hurl abuse at people in the street or deface their property etc so Labour's legislative plans are not needed for public order purposes.

We must oppose further attempts to limit our freedoms. Any draft legislation must go before a select committee for public submissions and we should all participate. If legislation is forced through under urgency then I'm afraid protest action may well become necessary. I congratulate David Seymour for his leadership on this fundamental issue but despair of the National Party who are MIA, again. The Free Speech Coalition, of which I have been a member and donor since its inception, must lift its game and become more professional. The time is fast approaching when we must all be ready to contribute to the defeat of "hate speech" legislation.Odysseushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04745489060434244478noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8442430064359197279.post-35300581217790336342020-12-10T07:50:06.065+13:002020-12-10T07:50:06.065+13:00I am also very much concerned re: your previous ar...I am also very much concerned re: your previous article on the likely suppression of free speech in this country.
The law will likely criminalize "hate speech"
However - many definitions of hate speech include "offensive" speech - the offense being subjectively defined.
There have been cases in England where even a simple statement of the scientific fact that there are only two genders was prosecuted as hate speech.Doug Longmirehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12008729336442910333noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8442430064359197279.post-45230217631499116892020-12-10T07:45:03.836+13:002020-12-10T07:45:03.836+13:00Excellent article Karl. The Labour-Green government (I say this deliberately, though Labour has an absolute majority) is right at this very moment aiming for the same hate-speech legislation they have in Britain. And, sad to accept, they have the numbers in Parliament to force it through. But there will be another election in 3 years time when the tables will have turned. Judith Collins will join ACT.

And you are so right. ACT is our only hope – I voted ACT this time for that very reason (and remember you did likewise).

Backing ACT is our Free Speech Coalition https://www.freespeechcoalition.nz/. I urge everybody to join them – to support them in this so important fight. They have a campaign going right now - and need your cash. Never the less, this government is intent on criminalising those who would say hurtful things about any religion, including Islam, its holy scriptures and its prophet. The truth being no defence.

In 2005, in Victoria Australia, a state that has similar laws to those I suspect this government intends for us, two pastors, Danny Nallah and Daniel Scot chose imprisonment rather than apologise for their public statements regarding Islam. “You don’t compromise truth for fear of jail.” stated Mr Scott.

https://www.theage.com.au/national/pastors-vow-to-go-to-jail-on-hate-case-20050623-ge0e77.html

For the collectivist left, the guilt of one (Australian) killer is our collective guilt. Hence the apology, hence the desire to implement blasphemy laws at the request of Christchurch’s local Imam and Labour party member, Gamal Fouda.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/300132578/election-2020-al-noor-imam-gamal-fouda-abused-while-walking-with-jacinda-ardern

No doubt it is the kind of heckling he received as outlined in the above article that would now transgress the proposed hate speech threshold.

No good can come from such a law, and it must be opposed at every turn.Brendan McNeillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02741263914308842497noreply@blogger.com
