Cole considers there were extermination camps, such as Treblinka, but sets out quite compelling reasons why Aushwitz wasn't one of them.

Cole actually faked his death in the late 90's after the JDL put a $25,000 bounty on his head. He re-emerged as a party planner for the Californian Republicans, but was outed by a disgruntled girlfriend in 2012. His book 'Republican Party Animal' is a fascinating read. I also think there is a certain irony that in a so called free Germany, if this defendant, or any person argued that in fact people died from typhus outbreaks, shootings, hangings, but not poison gas, they would likely go to prison. Simply for holding that view (eg. chemist Gemar Rudolf). That is a form of totalitarianism that seems at odds with what those who opposed the Nazis fought for.Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01133142115539961665noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8442430064359197279.post-84953930941040874512016-02-23T11:11:15.070+13:002016-02-23T11:11:15.070+13:00WWII in Europe finished 7 May, 1945 (NZ date).
It...WWII in Europe finished 7 May, 1945 (NZ date).

It is now February 2016.

Those now 95 would have been at most 24 years old at war's end and despite Mr Zuroff's assertion, for a man that young, coming to adulthood in those circumstances to defy authority, even to consider defying authority, would have been remarkable indeed.

Mr Zurkoff also claims that these trials are necessary to keep the WWII atrocities to the forefront of public learning.

I disagree.

I doubt there will be a single person educated by these trials, in fact I doubt there could be a single person in the Western world who is unaware of the Nazi disgrace of WWII.

The trials appear to me to, in fact, be a mix of revenge and an attempt to keep the Jew-persecution industry alive and well. Neither of which are noble.

Karl, I agree with you.Tinmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02749937729383913466noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8442430064359197279.post-9079898278459604312016-02-22T13:36:38.213+13:002016-02-22T13:36:38.213+13:00Over the years I've occasionally asked myself ...Over the years I've occasionally asked myself what I would have done as a German involved in the gassing of Jews and other "undesirables" and I'm reasonably confident I would have persuaded myself I was doing the right thing and carried on.. I don't see myself as having the moral courage to risk my life in opposing the gassing.

But OTOH I am always pleased to see justice catching up with these old men.. it feels right to me that they should never have peace until they die.

However I've read articles that argue Merkel and others see the refugee situation as a further chance to expiate the sins of WW2 and Hitler. If that is so, and the evidence of positively welcoming possibly millions of Muslim migrants suggests its a factor.. then the guilt has gone too far and is threatening the stability of Europe.

In the last 30 years I've looked into the faces of young German hitchhikers and have seen the ridiculousness of blaming them for the sins of generations past, so maybe you are right.. its time to stop picking the scabs of WW2 and leave the old Nazis alone. Carrying that old guilt and trying to make amends may have created a new disaster for Germany and Europe.

JCJChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00875768024598278750noreply@blogger.com
