I’ve been meaning for some time to write a tribute to the people who regularly comment on this blog.
Other than those who post under their real names, I have no
idea who they are. But their comments are almost invariably thoughtful, articulate and erudite.
I hope followers of this blog take the trouble to read them,
because they often greatly enhance and expand on whatever I’ve said, to the
extent that I sometimes think it’s they, not I, who should be blogging.
Crucially, in addition to the qualities listed above, they
are overwhelmingly civil – a virtue not to be undervalued when so much
online content is petty, mean-spirited and toxic.
So thank you, whoever you are.

No, the debt is ours Karl. You are an excellent writer, with a great turn of phrase. The fact that I seem to agree with much of what you say also helps! I use a pseudonym that means a lot to me. The Odyssey of Homer, in a young adults' version, was the first book I ever read and it stayed with me. And my career allowed me to live in many countries, "Many were they whose cities he saw, whose minds he learned of..." Of course Odysseus also had a more negative persona as a ruthless wily schemer, but we won't go there. Thank you for maintaining a voice of sanity in an increasingly desolate wilderness.
Thank you for your civilized and courteous posting Karl.
I thoroughly concur - I appreciate and admire many of the many comments posted regarding your blogs.
Your blogs are consistently the most accurate, sensible (dare we say centrist ?) and intelligible observations on the political and social current situation.
You really do have the ability to analyze and comment on a topic with exceptional clarity.
Well Done Karl.
I look forward to the Martinborough Fair 10th April.
We live in Palmy and love the Wairarapa. As a long time Wellington and Kapiti coast boy, I am locked into the lower North Island in my heart.
I visit every day on the chance that you post. I loathe the spin the NZ MSM feel they have to put on everything. I crave a sensible presentation of ideas and thought - and I find it here. I also find the comments refreshing - people engaged in discussion without vitriol. I wish we had more of this - and less divisive reporting for clicks. Thank you Karl.
Agree 100% with you MarkJ. You have put it extremely well.
'Sanctuary, Sanctuary!' Please don't go away.
I haven't commented for a while Karl but still a regular reader.
Caught up with Paul on Facebook yesterday after not having any contact for a few years.
For the benefit of those wondering who "Paul" is, he's my brother, and he quite wisely accepts no responsibility for anything I might write.
Thank you Karl for providing a voice of reason. I enjoyed your columns when you were with the Dom. The Dom and Stuff are no longer credible IMO.
